This one year course covers the essentials of formal logic. Topics covered include informal fallacies, categorical syllogisms, propositional logic, and tests for validity. The course will introduce students to diagramming arguments, and to graphical techniques for examining the validity of arguments, such as Venn diagrams and the Square of Opposition. Lively classroom discussion will include logical puzzles and opportunities to apply the techniques learned to arguments given in Scripture and literature.
